Can Ginny Thrasher keep the 25k for the Gold and maintain her NCAA eligibility?

She received the 25K from the Untied States Government. So I believe she does maintain NCAA eligibility. Now if the money had come from a sponsor such as Nike, then she probably does not maintain NCAA eligibility.

Wait till the IRS audits her. Lois Lerner will take her gold medal away!:flush:

Can professional basketball players win a gold medal and still remain pro? Jim Thorpe tried it and failed. The Olympics of today are not the Olympics of yesteryear. Remember when college players brought home the gold in roundball? The Russians took the gold from our college roundball boys onct upon a time................and the gates opened.

SEC football players get paid a lot more than that and still retain their amateur status in the eyes of the NCAA.

“The NCAA allows student-athletes to collect bonuses for winning medals for Team USA from the United States Olympic Committee without forfeiting their eligibility. This exception only applies for American athletes and does not apply to foreign-born athletes competing in NCAA sanctioned competition.”

Meaning, a foreign-born team member at WVU competing in the Olympics for another country is ineligible in future NCAA competition if they accept a medal bonus from their home nation during the Olympics.

I remember watching that game and all the do overs that they let the russkies have at the end of the game. It was sickening.

More bullshit from NCAA. All of these gentlemen and ladies should be allowed to collect whatever they want and still be allowed to compete at their respected universities regardless if they are American as Ginny Thrasher or Italian as Nicco Campriani.

So the government is taking money from me in the form of taxes and giving it to someone who wins a medal. That seems about right.
