This will be WVU’s second appearance in the Cactus Bowl, at Chase Field in Phoenix. But it was called the Insight Bowl when the Mountaineers lost to Missouri, 34-31, in 1998. Quarterback Marc Bulger was named Offense MVP.

It was the Copper Bowl from 1989 to 1996. Then the Insight Bowl, then the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl (hey, whoever put up the dough got the naming rights).

Now it’s the Ticket City Cactus Bowl.

And it has had a Big 12 team participating 9 of the past 10 bowls.

It will be the last bowl played before the national championship game, ending about 2 a.m. Eastern time on Jan. 3 (starting at 10:15 p.m. Jan. 2).

Oklahoma vs. Iowa drew the largest crowd, at 54,247. The bowl usually is in Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, but WVU’s 2016 opponent will have to travel all the way to Phoenix for this one because Sun Devil Stadium is undergoing a facelifting.

It’s among four bowls being played in baseball stadia. In this case, the one owned by 1965 WVU grad Ken Kendrick, who likes Rich Rodriguez. Kendrick grew up in Princeton, West Virginia. He became rich through software and banking.

I went to the Insight Bowl a few years ago...was Iowa St vs Minny...a decent game all things considered. I think I paid around $50 each for seats on the 40 , Minny sideline about 10 rows up...

Fiesta was the day after I think , as opposed to this yr the day before. It was an enjoyable enviro in Tempe with 4 different groups of fans in town, although I would estimate the Fiesta crowd outnumbered Insight by 2-1...Stayed in same hotel as the Cyclones cheer team.
Hoping for a good Mountaineer turnout this year since this is essentially a home game for the Sun Devils (sadly I will miss this one), any predicts on total attendance and percentage's of fans? I'd have to think somewhere around 70/30 in favor of Ariz St? But likely a good crowd in terms of capacity....

TorontoEERs...................since it is Christmas and I am in the spirits....................go ahead and give Holgs an extry bucket of them thar pickles that your fellers pick so fine. Send Huggins a bucket of them as well. Heck.................send each of the feller posters a dill pickle. Like I said, I am in the spirits. By the way..............the Mountaineer round ballers play on ESPNU tomorrow night.

We actually played in University of Arizona's field in Tuscon against Mizzou. I was there after a long night in Vegas. It was not in Phoenix or Tempe. We played like dog shit that night for all of the talent we had

I was there as well. We did play like DS 1st half, Second half however, we played pretty darn good, storming back with 28 pnts to their 10, only to fall 3 points short.

Yes..............Ole Warez has bought many an outfit of clothing at Kendrick's Men's Shop in Princeton, WV. In fact, I still have a pair of pants that were purchased there many years ago. They are way too small these days but remain tucked away just in case I ever lose weight. Ken's father (Earl) was a fine feller.

Well the last batch I sent Holgs 'Ole Warez Firehouse Hot' seemed to give the feller a case of indigestion late in the contest....the people here want 8-5 so we better make it right this time! Any suggestions? How do we combat the Sun Devil?!?....a 'Special Smallwood Blend'???

OK...............here's the plan. Keep wif the Ole Warez Firehouse Hots but send them to Mr. Smallwood. Send Holgs a bucket or two of the Offensive Genius version and let's see do they do the trick.......when mixed with zee Red Bull.
