Let’s look at the record for the preseason poll and the same poll halfway through the season.

TWO teams, Alabama and North Carolina, are still where they started the season.

EIGHT teams are higher than they started. The biggest miss by far: West Virginia, up at least 28 spots, maybe more (since WVU was not among the 40 ranked in preseason, the Mountaineers could have been 41st or 101st or somewhere in between). Next worst miss: Baylor, up by 14 spots. Interesting that the two most underestimated teams are in the Big 12. Bias? Probably not. Uninformed. Definitely.

SIXTEEN teams are lower than they started. The worst miss is Notre Dame, down by 30 plus however many the Irish would rank below the current top 40. Next worst miss was Michigan State, down 28 plus however many the Spartans would rank below the current top 40. TCU also was a major miss (even though it’s a Big 12 team), 26 below its preseason ranking.

The lesson is that a troop of chimpanzees throwing their feces at names on the wall would have been as accurate as human beings. With either method, polls are POS till the season is over.

Well, I guess that was do indisputable that no one disputed it. That must be a first on this board.

I'd argue Notre Dame. That was a huge miss. One thing for a team to come out of nowhere (and frankly most on this board agreed) another for a team to fall from that high to out of the top 25 and not close really. They are an average team at best this year.

Not to mention we still have the bulk of the schedule to come and it's unlikely that we get through that section and remain where we are. I believe we can, but if you play the odds well be an underdog in at least one of the last games (Oklahoma).

OK, Notre Dame was the biggest miss for being picked too high and WVU was the biggest miss for being picked too low. OK?
