WVSPORTS.COM Brown sees pathway for improvement with West Virginia football

This PSU game went exactly how I thought it would. Our D looked almost as bad as last year's D. We couldn't throw and PSU stacked the box. For the most part, as expected, NB ran his RPO offense with an occasional gimmick play. Yeah, he threw in the triple option a couple of times and other junk we didn't seem properly prepared to run.

There were three NB play calls that were absolutely ridiculous. The two wide receiver screens into the short boundary. And, the 4th down play with Nicco in there. I couldn't believe those WR screen calls to the short side, as not only did our guys need to beat the PSU superior DB talent, they also needed to beat the sideline. Calling it once was forgiveable, but twice was just plain stupid.

The good things. I thought Greene played really well. I thought those 4th and short plays where we got the push everytime were fantastic.

And finally, the pathway I see involves a coaching change.

I have to give the TCU and Colorado defenses some slack..it takes more energy to play defense and it was 106 on the field..lucky somebody didn't die out there

Baylor is in serious trouble with their QB out at least three weeks..that's when they play Texas

Ok State struggled with Central Arkansas..it was anyone's game going into the 4th qtr 13-7 lead

BYU simply has no offense right now...they led 7-0 going into the 4th finally winning 14-0 and managed only 257 total yds on Sam Houston

We could win 6 or 7this year, which could give Baker an excuse to keep Brown another year.
In no way should Neal be kept but you may be right. The easiest schedule in 10 or 15 years will give Neal a real shot at getting 7 wins. But since when is 7 wins enough? Stew got fired for 9. Dana was expected to get more too. Neal 5 years in should get no less than 10 this year. I hope we don't keep him for 7

I'd like to see 8 or 9 regular season wins and keep the team intact...not that it's relevant now, but if everyone comes back in 2024..it would be 18 starters

Didn’t one of the screens go to a tight end while Preston Fox was blocking or did my eyes betray me? No slight on Fox but I’d rather him be the receiver and the tight end blocking in that scenario.

Lol...looks like it took only one week for forum experts to abandon the "toughest" schedule excuse and replace it with "easiest."

Neal was gifted with another pathway to improvement. His first official ranking, puts his team in the bottom 25 teams in college football. This will make it much easier to climb and improve. I could see WVU finishing the year above the bottom 25, with what is looking like a super easy schedule. They are trying to make it much easier on him to improve. Climbing out of the bottom 25 should be pretty easy for a team with this much talent. Even I almost trust that climb....

Nealism of the day. This man should not talk on the air unless he absolutely has to. Never seen a coach who whines about as much as he does, and then does crap like this. Our HC is a fraud....

...and after he fired Harrell, he blamed him and threw him under the bus too. Fraud

How's Purdue doing with Harrel? Fresno was not intimidated. The guy is overrated as an OC.

I'm not taking up for Harrell, he sucks. I'm busting Neal because he threw a coach he hired under the bus and that's a wimpy thing to do. Real leaders don't do that even if harrell deserved it. Garrett Greene takes more personal accountability than Neal without offering up 100 excuses.

I would have tossed him under the bus and ran over his ass.

An easy schedule is the pathway forward. It's looking to be the easiest in a long time

I agree. I’ve reached the point where I don’t care what his record is this year. It’s time for change. He’s not a good fit. It’s time we act like a program that demands better results.

what is wrong with you?..Harrel left because Purdue offered him 900,000....WVU was paying 600,000..if you want to criticize at least don't be CNN with the fake news..Purdue paid WVU because GH had two more years on the contract..if WVU had fired him WVU would have paid him
