Cornerback Joins Mountaineer Football Program
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – (March 21, 2024) - West Virginia University football coach Neal Brown has announced that Garnett Hollis Jr., a 6-foot-2, 205-pound, senior cornerback from Nashville, Tennessee, has signed a grant-in-aid and will transfer to WVU from Northwestern. He will have two years to complete his one year of remaining eligibility.

- Helped lead the Wildcats to an 8-5 record, including a 5-4 mark in the Big Ten and a win over Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl
- Started all 13 games
- Finished with 49 tackles, including 33 solo stops, one interception, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery
- Recorded five tackles in five games (Utah, Illinois, Wisconsin, Penn State and UTEP)
- Had five solo tackles and a fumble recovery at Wisconsin
- Recorded four tackles, with three solo stops and a pass breakup in an overtime win over Minnesota
- Registered three tackles, including two unassisted and a fumble recovery against Purdue
- Appeared in eight games, starting four, recording 24 tackles, an interception, three passes defended and two forced fumbles
- Made two solo tackles and recorded one pass defended in a win over Nebraska
- In first career start recorded five total tackles, four solo, and grabbed his first career interception against Duke
- Made two total tackles, one solo, against Southern Illinois
- Recorded two solo tackles and logged and two fumbles against Penn State
- Was the first time a Northwestern player forced two fumbles in the same game since Jimmy Hall in 2014 against Notre Dame
- Led the team with a career-high nine total tackles, five solo, and one pass defended against Wisconsin
- Posted four total tackles, two solo, and one pass defended against Iowa
- Appeared in five games, making his collegiate debut against Indiana State
- Did not see game action
- Played for coach Roc Batten at Battle Ground Academy
- Ranked No. 47 cornerback in the nation and No. 18 player in Tennessee (247Sports)
- Four-year letterwinner and 2019 team captain
- Finished prep career with 109 tackles, five tackles for loss and six interceptions
- Had 86 catches, 1,295 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns on offense
- Selected three-time all-region and all-state selection
- Named 2019 Defensive Player of the Year
- Selected as the Williamson County Male Athlete of the Year as a junior
- Selected to the Dandy Dozen as a senior
- Also earned all-district honors three times in basketball
- National Honor Society Member, High Honor Roll and Murphy Fair Academic All-State honoree
- Son of Garnett Sr. and Dominique Hollis

- Graduated with his bachelor’s degree in education and social policy at Northwestern in March 2024
