Louisville has imposed a one-year postseason ban for its men's basketball team amid the NCAA's ongoing investigation into an alleged recruiting scandal at the school.

The school announced the sanctions at a news conference Friday afternoon. University president James R. Ramsey acknowledged that it was "reasonable to conclude violations have occurred in the past."

"I recognize that this is a significant penalty for our program," said Ramsey, who was accompanied at the news conference by longtime coach Rick Pitino and athletic director Tom Jurich.

The players were informed at a meeting earlier Friday, according to multiple reports. The Louisville Courier-Journal was first to report the ban.

"This is certainly a night of extreme pain," said Pitino, who called the news "a complete shock."

Ahhh!! What an upstanding addition to the ACC. It appears they (the ACC) bought a pig in a poke. With all of the issues surrounding UNC I'm sure they don't care.

UofL just hoping to avoid very stiff penaties. I watched the press conference. Good thing the A.D. was sitting between the President and Petino because Petino was pissed.
He really doesn't get it.
He went on for 5 mins about how it wasn't fair for the kids, especially the seniors.
Perhaps he should have apologized to them instead.

Pitino to me is the Petrino of college basketball. These guys are the sex, lies, & hopefully no video tape of college coaching.

Btw not naive enough to believe that Louisville is the only place this happens. I'd say it's more common than not& it wouldn't shock me if this happened in the 26505.

The audacity of Pitino to complain how this is unfair. Really? Like he didn't know what a coach under him was doing. You got 15 players and 3-4 full time assistants as well as assistants to the assistants. So each coach is responsible for knowing the comings and goings of probably 3 players and recruiting. Yet nobody knew of hookers and strippers were being used in the athletic dorms for recruiting? Right!

And now Pitino, that cheating sob, is complaining? How much other stuff have you got away with Rick? How's Karen Cyphers these dats?

Unless I am completely wrong, looks like the Big 12 skipping on Louisville is a good thing. They are the Aye Shee Shee's problem...

And I will never forget our students screaming the name of Pitino's mistress during one of their visit's to Morgantown within the last 6 - 7 years. I think we won that game because the taunting got to Pitino.

Solution: suspend Petino for 1 season without pay. Until the coaches feel it in their pocketbook, this crap will never get better.

If this happened I'll bet cheating, especially with escorts, would go to a minimum. Honestly though the ncaa doesn't care about cheating. If they did, they'd have figured out a way to cut down on it since the SMU Death Penalty which was 30+ years ago.

It would absolutely end it. If the coach is gone when a penalty is handed down, then they get suspended without pay for a year wherever they ended up (unless they are in the NBA or out of work of course). If that is the case, I would do the same process to the AD.

In this case, I would do this to both the AD and Petino. What a scumbag of a university. Perfect match for the ACC.
