FROM WBOY-TV IN CLARKSBURG:
The Fairmont State Falcons welcomed former Florida State and WVU Head Coach Bobby Bowden to campus.
Bowden visited Fairmont State today to address the football team and meet with donors. He was invited by current Falcon Head Coach Jason Woodman, who began his career as a graduate assistant under Bowden in Tallahassee. There is plenty of reason for current college football players to look up to Coach Bowden: in 44 seasons as a head coach, he racked up 377 victories, good for second all time. He also claimed two national titles, in 1993 and 1999, and from 1987 to 2000, his Seminole teams won at least ten games and finished in the AP top five every year. Mountaineer fans may remember that before heading to Florida State, Bowden was the head coach in Morgantown, and today he looked back fondly on that time.
"My children were raised in West Virginia," he said. "You ask them where they're from, they'll say West Virginia. They ask me where I'm from, I'm from Alabama, but they were raised and four of them graduated from West Virginia university, so this is their home. So it's always good to get back."
Bobby will always be a GOOD good ol' boy, Alabama drawl and all. He did well at WVU before he took the 50% pay raise to go to Florida State and turn a moribund program into national champions.
