Just not very good at the top. Some solid teams that are maybe competitive in the 15-40 team ranking range. Not a joke league but nowhere even close to ACC.

I remember when we were in the BE, it was similar. I always remember people excusing it as "Big East teams beat up on each other in regular season and wore teams down" affecting them in the Big Dance
Big 12 officiating is part of the problem. They called about 1/2 as many fouls in the NCAA tournament as in regular season Big 12 play. Two foul shots in the 1st half of Vill/Okla.
Didn't bother all the old Big East teams that made the Sweet 16s, Elite 8s, the final fours and the teams winning National Tittles. The Big12 and the old Bug East in the same sentence if goofy talk. The New Big East is a joke. Even Nova in the old Big East was rarely better than middle of the pack.

This is exactly the problem. The Big-12 officiating is soft. If they let the teams beat the crap out of each other on the floor, they would be more than ready for the dance later on.
Why can't a conference like the Big 12 hire competent officials? Seriously, don't look to me for the answer.
Competent should be a given at this level, what is missing is consistency between the conferences. This is either a boon or a bust come tournament time.
Last I checked, the conferences didn't hire officials in bball. That's why we still get Higgins and company.
The conferences most certainly do hire officials. Just because they contract it out, they are still payed and controlled by the conferences. For those that say they are not league officials, you're wrong. If a conference can give you a job and then fire you, you're a conference official.
The B10 got no teams in the 8 and the PAC12 got 1, not that facts should enter the discussion Greg.

No, then that makes them contractors. Contractors can, by definition, be hired and fired. Conferences have zero control over refs and the only thing they can do is after any transgressions happen.

CoalBucket..................... you know good and well that the conference shiny shoes control what goes on with regard to hiring and firing of personnel (refs). You and I have no control over this but..............we ain't shiny shoes either. You are an intelligent person and came within a 30 credits of graduating at WVU.
