system seems flawed to me...hard to believe a 11-1 Sooner team can't get in the mix!

At the end of the year, they will have more quality wins than ND ... but it's ND, so they always get the nod.
If ND beats Stanford ( dogfight) and they finish 11-1 they probably deserve a shot but no more than Oklahoma, IMHO! They need to expand the playoff's another round to avoid these types of conundrums..

Texas is awful. Ole Miss is somewhat respectable. But if OU wins out, they have a good argument over Bama but that won't happen. If ND wins out, they blasted Texas and their only loss is to #1 Clemson by 2 points. If Okie St wins out, which I don't think they will, then Okie St over ND. Clemson may choke against UNC. Ohio State may lose to either Mich St. or Michigan. TCU may wake up and beat OU. A lot of football left.

Why is their loss to Texas more devestating than 'bama's home loss to Ole Miss?

You have to factor in rivalry games somewhere also. IMO. Texas had no business beating OK this year, and yet they did. I don't know how you factor in the rivalry, but you need to. I don't like how they do the rankings in CFB honestly. They are almost never based on "if team X and team Y played on a neutral field, who would be favored?"

I don't trust Clemson either but hard for me to favor one loss teams over another. Let 'em all in and settle it on the field!

....but it be a better system if they let Vegas pick the the "final four". If Texas had better QBing they'd be much better, they have some players! They beat the Sooners and should have beaten OSU butgot off the dreaded 8 yard punt in the waning seconds.I just have a hard time seperating one loss teams with any degree of intellectual honesty, I think you can make a strong case for whoever gets screwed!

Yeah, it's difficult, but one of the problems is that team X beats team Y who was ranked #10 when team X beat them, so team X launches up the polls. However, team Y goes on to lose 4 more games to show they really weren't as good as people thought they were, but team X has already reaped a much larger reward than they would have for the same outcome in week 12.

Clearly you can't make Vegas part of the solution. Mostly, I'm just not in favor of putting too much stock in rankings at all. Wait until the end of the season and see where everybody stands. A lot of those wins that looked good originally won't look as good by the end, and a lot of losses that looked really bad will end up not looking so bad by the end.

I will never understand how you designate 5 power conferences but only have 4 playoff spots. Expand it to at least 8. All 5 power conference winners are in automatically and then you have 3 at large bids. I really don't think you need to go to more than 8. Somebody will always get "left out", but at least it won't be a conference champion. And this year, perhaps TWO conference champions will get left out. Big XII and Pac 12

I agree 100%....expand it to 8 team playoff.

Dump the playoff format all together. That is the problem. There is no need for a national championship tournament anyway. This is COLLEGE football...remember?
