Big 12 Defenses

But KSU has no offense. I didn't need to read an article to know any of this.

No one ever talks about the fact that passing offenses in the Big 12 are superior to other leagues so that Big 12 defenses basically have to stop the long pass and give up the middle of the field, then eventually stop teams with good red zone Defense. I'm guessing Big 12 Red zone Defense is on par or better than other conferences.

The article mentioned about how badly Big 12 defense performed in OOC play. Big 12 defenses are flat out bad doesn't matter who the opponent is or the conference there playing against.

Oklahoma has a big problem for allowing Bob stoops to hire his Brother who is flat out awful.

Yards per game & points per game are a little deceptive without taking in other factors. The S&P ratings give you a better overall reading on defenses. However, the Big 12 doesn't fare much better in the S&P ratings:

1. Kansas State #13
2. Baylor #22
3. West Virginia #51
4. Oklahoma #66
5. TCU #67
6. Oklahoma State #75
7. Texas #97
8. Iowa State #104
9. Kansas #106
10. Texas Tech #114

Looking at WVU's defense:
NO touchdown against first team defense in Missouri game.
Lots of 2nd and 3rd stringers played against Youngstown as Dana wisely gave reps to backups to build experience for later in the season when injuries always pile up.
BYU was a gunslinger game. No doubt.
Defenses dominated both offenses in Kansas State game. But WVU offense came through in clutch, finally, wiping out 13-point deficit. And defense made key plays at critical times. And WVU got lucky when 37-yard field goal missed.
WVU defense probably has done better than nearly every other Big 12 team. But we'll know more about that after WVU defense goes against the remaining 8 Big 12 opponents.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying catching my breath this Saturday while the other Big 12 teams slug it out.
