Apparently the B1G is mandating that all members play 1 game against P5, ND, BYU, Cincy, Uconn, or Army out of conference every year, and are not allowing members to schedule 1AA teams. They are allowing Notre Dame, BYU, Cincy, UConn, and Army to count as though they are Power 5 programs. You have to wonder why they would count Army but not Navy and Air Force.

I read this on the Pitt board.

Every P-5 team should play only P-5 teams in OOC games. That would make the national playoff selections more meaningful. It would make the regular season an elimination game for the national playoffs.
Hell, I would line up the P-5 in a tournament that would run 6 weeks. Winners move on; losers play each other. In 6 weeks, you would have every P-5 team ranked from 1 to 64 (by throwing in BYU, maybe Boise State and a few others to get the total to 64).
Think that wouldn't draw skyrocket TV ratings?
Every week would cut the national playoff hopefuls in half!
Sometimes my brilliance dazzles even me. :sunglasses:

Oh heck, just scrap the preseason against patsies - they don't mean crap anyway - have a scrimmage the first week of September against somebody if you need tuneups. Play 9 games against teams from your own conference or against other P5 schools - your scheduling choice. At the end of 9 weeks, take the top 32 ranked teams and start a playoff in week 10. Play 5 more games - 14 games total for the final 2 teams - nobody left out - huge TV ratings - true national champion, no need for conference championships - longest surviving team from any conference gets named the conference champ for the year. Do the same for teams ranked 33-64, consider it the NIT tournament of football. Everybody gets to play 10 games - nobody has to play more than 14. Huge ratings. Done deal.

Skygusty, I like your idea. Start the season with conference games, play nine and then start a playoff with the top teams from each conference. Maybe two from each including the G5, bracket them and let 'er rip!
What the heck, let's go all the way. after 6 weeks, match up 64 teams (Power 5 plus ND & BYU & whoever many it takes to get to 64). Winners move on. Losers play each other. 64 teams first week, 32 teams 2nd week, 16 teams 3rd week, 8 teams 4th week, 4 teams 5th week and indisputed national champ the 6th week. The losers keep playing so that you have the teams ranked from 1 to 64 by what they do on the field.

Just like March Madness.

Why not? TV would pay a fortune for it.

Why are UConn, Cincinnati, & Army counted as P5 football programs?

UConn isn't even close. That school cares more about Yankees vs Sox than college football.

Cincinnati is no different than any other AAC school, except less fans than ECU and a crappier stadium.

Army like the rest of the academy schools doesn't red shirt and has weight requirements that put the school at the biggest disadvantage in college football.

This B1G rule makes no sense.

...and you have to ask, why is Boise NOT on that list, but UCONN is? Whatever...
