Bender Off to Strong Start
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (July 20, 2016) – WVU men’s basketball freshman Maciej Bender is off to a strong start for Poland at the U20 European Championships Division B group in Chalkida, Greece.
The 6-foot-10 freshman from Warsaw, Poland, is third on the team in scoring, averaging 7.8 points per game and leads his team in rebounding at 9.2 boards through the team’s first four games. Bender leads Poland with a 13.5 efficiency rating.
In the 80-51 win over Belarus in the opening game, Bender scored seven points and had nine rebounds, and had nine points and 10 rebounds in the 70-60 win over Russia. On Tuesday, he scored four points and had eight rebounds in the 60-48 win over Estonia. Earlier today in a 62-60 loss to Iceland, Bender posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
For his strong play, Bender has been invited to the Poland Senior National Team training camp and is the youngest player from Poland invited to the camp.
The 2016 U20 European Championships continue through Sunday, July 24.
