What is Marshall's highest ever ranking in football (end of season) in their history? AP, UPI, USAToday, ESPN? Any of those will suffice. I assume they've never, at any point, been ranked in basketball. Just curious. Don't count backward and start including "receiving votes" as a "rank".... No team is considered "ranked" when 'also receiving votes'.

Since moving to Division I-A, Marshall has finished in the Top 25 three times: 1999 (10th AP/10th coaches' poll), 2001 (21st coaches poll), 2002 (24th AP/19th coaches poll).
They also finished 23/22 in 2014. Nobody has bothered to update their Wiki entry. So 10th in 1999 when they beat a 6-6 Clemson team that played Florida State close in the first Bowden Bowl. You always need to look at the moral victory angle when talking about MVU.

I don't take any poll seriously if it is just based on the opinions of coaches or sports writers. Coaches can rank a their own team or one of their opponents highly for selfish interests....as can sports writers and broadcasters do the same. Case in point, Doc Holliday voting his own team 11th in the nation last year. To me, a valid poll must include such things as strength of schedule based on how every opponent fared in that season, and the opponents strength of schedule.......and so on. I prefer the Sagarin rankings, and at the end of the season, when it's all said and done, it proves to be a much more accurate poll than any of the others. http://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm Herdiots won't agree.

Not to mention FCS no longer has its own championship playoff, they play bowl games along with P5/D1a programs, ranked along with D1a teams, Wow, obviously, you were educated at Marshall. Dumbass.
