Baseball Travels for Series at ETSU[/B]
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 5, 2015) - The West Virginia University baseball team will continue its 17-game road trip to start the season with a three-game series at ETSU from March 6-8 in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Friday's game will begin at 4:05 p.m., Saturday's game will start at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday's finale will begin at 1:05 p.m. A link to live stats is available on WVUsports.com.
"They're playing really well and just like every other team we've played so far, they're capable of beating of us if we don't play a good game," coach Randy Mazey said. "We need to be settled on a lineup by next weekend so a lot of different guys will get a chance to play this weekend and show what they can do."
West Virginia (4-6) is looking to get back on track after going 2-5 in its last seven games and playing in three one-run games last weekend at the Chanticleer Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Mountaineers fell 5-2 to Kent State, 4-3 to Coastal Carolina, defeated Ball State 7-6 and fell to No. 25 Illinois 2-1.
The Mountaineers will employ their same rotation with freshman right-hander BJ Myers starting Friday, junior left-hander Ross Vance going Saturday and sophomore right-hander Chad Donato taking the hill on Sunday.
Vance and Donato each pitched eight-plus innings last weekend. Vance took a no-decision against Coastal Carolina, allowing two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in 8.2 innings. Donato took the loss against Illinois, but only allowed two unearned runs on four hits with five strikeouts in eight innings.
The Mountaineers, hitting .232 as a team, are led at the plate by senior shortstop Taylor Munden, who is batting .405 with five doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs. Senior third baseman Justin Fox is hitting .333 with two doubles, one triple, one home run and three RBIs, while freshman outfielder Kyle Davis is hitting .333 with four doubles and four RBIs.
ETSU is batting .320 as a team with five individuals batting over .300. Junior infielder Trey York leads the Bucs with a .541 batting average, two doubles, three triples, five home runs and 19 RBIs.
ETSU coach Tony Skole will send senior right-hander Jimmy Nesselt to the mound on Friday, junior right-hander Lee Haeberle on Saturday and junior right-hander Griffin Krieg on Sunday.
