Baseball Travels for Matchup at Pitt[/B]

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 30, 2015) - The WVU baseball team will travel to Pitt on Tuesday, March 31, for a 6 p.m. non-conference game at Charles L. Cost Field.

The Mountaineers have an overall record of 15-10 and are currently riding a six-game winning streak following a weekend sweep of Charleston Southern.

Freshman second baseman Kyle Davis paces the WVU offense, batting .356 with eight doubles, two home runs and 15 RBIs, while senior third baseman Justin Fox is hitting .330 with five doubles, one triple, two home runs and 12 RBIs. Senior shortstop Taylor Munden leads the team with seven home runs to go along with a .324 batting average and eight doubles, while sophomore outfielder Shaun Wood has a team-leading 23 RBIs.

Freshman right-hander Shane Ennis (1-0) will get the nod for West Virginia. Ennis has a 0.82 ERA in seven appearances with one start. He has struck out five in 11 innings and opponents are hitting .143.

As a team, WVU is batting .285 with 81 extra-base hits and 151 runs driven in. The pitching staff has a 3.58 ERA in 223.2 innings with 168 strikeouts.

Pitt (11-15) has lost five of its last seven, including being swept at NC State last weekend.

Junior outfielder Aaron Schnurbusch leads the Panthers offensively with a .302 batting average, seven doubles, three triples, two homers and 15 RBIs. Freshman outfielder Frank Maldonado and senior infielder Jordan Frabasilio are tied for the team lead with five home runs apiece, and junior infielder Ron Sherman has a team-leading 16 RBIs.

The Panthers are hitting .252 as a team with 43 doubles, 13 triples, 20 home runs and 119 RBIs. The pitching staff holds a 3.71 ERA with 217 strikeouts in 235.1 innings.

Sophomore right-hander Sam Mersing (2-0) will make his fourth start of the season, holding a 6.08 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 13.1 innings.

This will be the 189th meeting between the schools with the Mountaineers holding a 102-86 advantage.
