MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (October 2, 2017) - After leading the No. 1-ranked Mountaineers to an NCAA-best showing on Sept. 30, sophomore Milica Babic of the rifle team has been named the West Virginia University Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
The Belgrade, Serbia, native paced WVU to an NCAA- record 2390 air rifle showing in the team’s home opener at the WVU Rifle Range. The mark was two-shots better than the previous national record of 2388, shot by the Mountaineers on Jan. 17, 2016.
Babic finished first overall in air rifle, shooting a season-best 598. She also finished first in smallbore with a career-high matching 589 mark.
The Mountaineers defeated No. 5-ranked Ohio State, 4731-4683.

This Week in Tennis: The Mountaineers open the 2017 fall season at the Cleveland State Viking Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio, on Oct. 6-8 ... WVU will face host Cleveland State, Akron and Cincinnati during the three-day tournament.
Notes: WVU has eight letterwinners returning for the 2017-18 campaign, including two seniors, Lyn Yuen Choo and Yvon Martinez ... Choo leads the team with 77 career victories ... Choo was won 39 singles matches and 37 in doubles action ... Martinez ranks second on the team with 56 total wins ... Martinez led the Mountaineers with five singles victories last fall ... Choo led WVU in the spring with five singles wins ... junior Paula Goetz registered a team-leading nine doubles victories last spring.
This Week in Baseball: West Virginia opens its fall slate with a pair of games this weekend … WVU hosts in-state foe Marshall on Friday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. ET … the Mountaineers then host their annual alumni game on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11:30 a.m. … all fall games will be held at Monongalia County Ballpark, and admission is free for all fans.
