Authoritarianism Expert Unmasks Donald Trump’s 'Diabolical' Move That Broke Republicans

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on Thursday asked authoritarianism expert Ruth Ben-Ghiat to explain why some of President Donald Trump’s “most harsh critics” — such as his now-Vice President JD Vance and former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson ― have become his biggest backers and enablers.

Ben-Ghiat talked about a “moral collapse” in the GOP and Trump’s domestication of the party until it’s “become his personal tool.

Trump “tried to overthrow the government” following his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden, noted the author of “Strongmen: Mussolini to the Present,”

And “the genius of what he did, seen from a diabolical authoritarian perspective, is that he targeted Republicans as well as Democrats,” she continued.

Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, went after his own then-Vice President Mike Pence and it showed “from an authoritarian perspective, is that no one was off-limits,” said Ben-Ghiat.

“Republicans were calling their family members, they thought they were going to die that day, and then they have had to kind of forget that trauma and publicly debase themselves by popping up and saying, ‘Yes, we’re here for you, leader,’” she added. Authoritarianism “doesn’t only require you to betray others, it requires you to lose your own conscience,” she said.

MSNBC, Nicolle Wallace and "expert" Ruth Ben-Ghiat.....Laughable.

BTW...Trump “tried to overthrow the government” ... a proven LIE...Trump was NEVER charged with trying to "overthrow the government”.

Isn't it so much fun watching @moe crack up right before our very eyes? :joy:

@moe

Do you see me laughing? I'm serious...my TDS is as genuine as syphilis! :mad:

You should read up @moe on what untreated syphilis does to the brain?

Effects of untreated Syphilis
Untreated syphilis can lead to serious long-term health issues, including damage to the heart, brain, and other organs, potentially resulting in life-threatening conditions. This advanced stage, known as tertiary syphilis, can occur 10 to 30 years after the initial infection and may cause complications such as dementia, cardiovascular disease, and severe neurological problems.

Now @moe ....we here on the OT forum know you've been obsessing over Trump since the summer of 2015 (when he 1st came down that golden escalator) you're almost 10 years into your TDS dementia, and according to the sourced material linked here from the Mayo clinic, you are close to having terminal long term damage Bro!

and just how did all these "roped and quartered unconscious prisoners" of Der Fuhrer Trump respond when he announced his re-election run after the '20 election?

Ans: They elected him in '24 in a record landslide & the same guy who allegedly beat him in '20 wasn't even allowed to run again against him! 🤔

Funny how @moe 's "authoritarian expert" never explained how that happened huh folks? 😏

@moe
230.jpg
It doesn't need to be explained how Trump won in a landslide particularly winning votes from traditional Democrat voters! Just understand whatever some other TDS deranged "expert" tells me about Trump, I'm absolutely going to believe it OK?

OK @moe ...we can follow that at least! :joy:

Hello? McFly? He did try. What do you think the fake electors, strong arming of SOSs to "find votes", years long effort of saying there is voter fraud w/o any evidence of it, causing the riot to interrupt the vote, etc. was all about? coincidence? shew And now he's trying to do it from the inside. Trump and MAGA Repubs (and SCOTUS) have been very persistent in their efforts to shitcan democracy and install an authoritarian gov't and we get to watch it in real time or most of us. Some seem oblivious to it all or that's the act that they're going with.

I bet they got some stories to tell. Did they bring their client list?

President Trump and Secretary Rubio have secured the extradition of 29 top cartel leaders from Mexico to the U.S. for prosecutionThis is UNPRECEDENTED.Raphael Caro Quintero, who m*rdered a DEA Agent was just flown into New York and handed over.“This is the highest number of extraditions [in one day] in the history of Mexico, without question,” former DEA head of international operations Mike Virgil told CrashOutJUSTICE is coming, and an example will be made.

Who were these “fake electors”? State legislators? They’re not fake. It’s in the constitution if a state contests its election results, they can appoint their state legislatures to award their electoral vote. In what instance did Trump strong arm a SOS to find votes? Or was that twisting the words to your liking? Installing an authoritarian government? He was elected by both the electoral college and popular vote. In what case does that translate into authoritarian government?

Do you take medicine for Attention Deficit Disorder?

Trump won the popular vote. What does that say for the Democrat Party if he is so bad?
@moe worries how Trump "took over" the GOP and forced everyone to vote for him, but he never mentions how his own worthless party essentially kicked creepy Joe to the curb and "installed" his loser replacement who was probably THE WORST Presidential candidate they've ever run...except for maybe this guy:

Former Democrat Presidential candidate George McGovern

Bio

excerpt (from the '72 campaign)
In the general election on November 7, 1972, the McGovern–Shriver ticket suffered a 61 percent to 37 percent defeat to Nixon – at the time, the second biggest landslide in American history, with an Electoral College total of 520 to 17. McGovern's two electoral vote victories came in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia, and he failed to win his home state of South Dakota, which had gone Democratic in only three of the previous eighteen presidential elections and would continue to go Republican in presidential elections to come.[240] Over the nation as a whole he carried a mere 135 counties.[nb 15] At just over four percent of the nation's counties, McGovern's county wins remain the fewest by almost a factor of three for any major-party nominee.[241]

I didn't realize he was worse than me!

@moe ...I know you'll never answer this, but for your own reasoning if Trump tried to "overthrow" the government, what was "crossfire Hurricane" all about?

Crossfire Hurricane

FBI investigation
Crossfire Hurricane was the code name for the counterintelligence investigation undertaken by the Federal Bureau of Investigation from July 31, 2016, to May 17, 2017, into links between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russia and "whether individuals associated with [Trump's] presidential campaign were coordinating, wittingly or unwittingly, with the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 Presidential election.

In case you were unaware @moe ...THAT ENTIRE SCAM WAS EXPOSED & TOTALLY FABRICATED AS A BOLD ATTEMPT TO "OVERTHROW" A DULY ELECTED PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad:

@moe

I don't pay attention to the facts of that obviously fraudulent case, the cause was noble and I'm only upset they couldn't pull it off! They almost did though, that's why I'm as miserable today as I was after Trump won in '16 when they cooked up the whole scheme to get rid of him!

Gee wiz @moe , who'd have ever guessed you don't care anything about a legitimate effort to "overthrow" our Government? :rolleyes:

Who won the election?

Why are you so upset at cracking down on unjustified spending?

Shit canning waist does not destroy Democracy. Unless you consider new toilets a national threat.

Cutting the corruption out of spending is not a threat to the nation.

Informed citizens are democracy’s best defense

Nearly 70 percent of Americans believe Super PAC spending will lead to corruption and that three in four Americans believe limiting how much corporations, unions, and individuals can donate to Super PACs would curb corruption. Of those who expressed an opinion, more than 80 percent believe that, compared with past elections, the money being spent by political groups this year is more likely to lead to corruption. And, most alarmingly, the poll revealed that concerns about the influence Super PACs have over elected officials undermine Americans’ faith in democracy: one in four respondents — and even larger numbers of low-income people, African Americans, and Latinos — reported that they are less likely to vote because big donors to Super PACs have so much more sway than average Americans.

By significant margins, Americans believe new rules that allow individuals, corporations, and unions to donate unlimited amounts to Super PACs will lead to corruption.

@moe has TDS...these questions you're asking him are mean @WVUALLEN and an obvious attempt on your part to embarrass him or make it worse for him! Can't 'ya see the poor guy's already suffering enough from the ravages of that debilitating illness? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
