It sure does look more attractive than when I was in college. As I recall, Bobby Bowden never made more than the $30s here, and I know he was always on 1 year term contracts.
Accounting for inflation, $40,000 in 1975 would be about $180,000 in today's dollars. Outside pop singers, it's hard to come up with any occupation where someone can make so much relative to talent. I believe all of our assistants now make more in real dollars than we paid head coaches in those days, including the ones literally a twist of fate from being assistant HS coaches and PE teachers.
