At least three Sun Belt Conference members are going bowling this season: Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, and Appalachian State all accepted invitations to participate in postseason activities on Wednesday morning, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.
Arkansas State is headed to the New Orleans Bowl, Georgia Southern has accepted to play in the GoDaddy Bowl, and Appalachian State will be squaring off in the Camellia Bowl, per McMurphy.
Arkansas State (8-3, 7-0) plays Texas State (3-8, 2-5) this Saturday, and a win would give the Red Wolves their third outright conference title in the last five years.
Georgia Southern (8-3, 6-1) will finish the regular season against Georgia State (5-6, 4-3) in hopes of accomplishing its second nine-win campaign in as many years since joining the FBS ranks.
Appalachian State (9-2, 6-1) visits South Alabama (5-6, 3-4) and can record a 10-win season in its first year after moving up from the FCS ranks this past offseason. The Mountaineers haven’t reached double-digit wins since they finished 10-3 in 2010 as a member of the Southern Conference.
Georgia State and South Alabama can become bowl eligible with upset wins on Saturday. According to McMurphy, if one team wins, it would play in the Cure Bowl. If both teams win, the other would play in the Arizona Bowl.
