Because, old buzzard, when you are the #6 team in the country and you lose at home by 9 to the #25 team in the country you deserve to drop down in the polls, in this case by eight spots.

And when you are the #25 team in the country and you beat the #6 team on their court you deserve to jump up in the polls, in this case by 10 spots.

It does not mean that you get to swap places with the team you defeated. There's a lot of basketball yet to be played and it remains to be seen how good many teams really are, WVU & UVA included.
