Anyone paying attention to one of our 2016 opponents?

Being out here in Utah, you get inundated with news on BYU and Utah football predominately. So, after 2 weeks of hearing about the Cougars, it should be noted that they are starting to make some noise.

I know it's next year and the meeting at FedEx Field in Landover will take place on 9/24, but I am keeping an eye out on their game performance at certain positions that could affect how we will play against them next year.

One I am paying the most attention to is at QB...

After their Senior QB was injured and out for the season in the matchup with Nebraska, their Freshman QB 6' 2" 210lbs (Taysom Hill) has come in and taken the reigns. Looking at their overall roster briefly, it's a fairly 50/50 mix of upper and lower classmen.

Although the jury is still out because we are still early in the season, I would not call this game a W should most of their experience return since they beat Boise State and Nebraska. That true freshman will have a year of experience under his belt and we do lose a good bit of our defensive experience after this year.

Frankly I hope we win and I most certainly would not dismiss playing against the LDS boys.

Thoughts?

BYU is always very competitive. Should be a GREAT game and one that should attract a TON of national attention!!!

Pretty good except Taysom Hill is the senior QB who was again lost to an early season-ending injury, while Tanner Mangum is the freshman QB who has connected on the Hail Marys in their first 2 games.

You just got the two players mixed up for a moment.

I must have misread their roster... You are right, it was Tanner Mangum

Was thinking the close proximity would weight the crowd in our favor but...does anyone have a feel for the BYU national following? I'm imagining there's a good number of LDS just about everywhere? Do they tend to travel fairly well in support of the team? I honestly don't know...it would be a help if we were the majority in Landover....

There is a huge Mormon temple near Silver Spring, MD, along the I-495 loop. So I imagine that those who would travel from the SLC area, to include those from elsewhere in the country would show up. I think it might be a good mix of WVU fans/alumni with BYU fans/alumni there for the game. I would not be surprised if the game is sold out.

I look forward to the BYU game. But not nearly as much as the Maryland and Oklahoma games coming up this season.
WVU's direction hangs on the next 5 games. 2-3 is possible, maybe even probable, although I don't think so.
I'm beginning to have a good feeling about this team. But I need a victory over Maryland and 3 wins in the first 4 Big 12 games to feel really good about the 2015 season.
7-0 and I'd be beside myself.

M ighty defense throttled Georgia Southern, 44-0

O utstanding defense obliterated Liberty, 41-17

U nilaterally decimate Maryland

N euter Oklahoma

T rample Oklahoma State

A nnihilate Baylor

I ncinerate TCU

N ail Texas Tech

E rectile dysfunction Texas

E viscerate Kansas

R ip open a new one for Iowa State

S kewer Kansas State
