New season, new promise...Sold out, or close to sold out? I'm gonna guess with the late start and first week most of those student tix will be gone, but how many will show having all day long to get lathered up? Would think the other sections should be at or damn close to capacity...Hoping for a good turnout regardless...

Rough estimate: about 55K[thumbsup]

I'll go with 58k. Betting on a good walk-up crowd due to good weather + night game + 1st game of season.

I'll take the under...I was thinking more like 52K or so. Probably a lot of unsightly empty seats in that upper left section on camera again.

I'll go with the above 58K. Most of the past night game have produced great crowds and the place will at least look full. Being the first game, the student should have a good showing.

By the way, it's not close to a sellout. We would need a HUGE walkup crowd to get close. The good news is that Maryland, Texas & Oklahoma State are probably going to sell out. I think at last report students had claimed around 10,000 tickets out of their 12,500 allotment. I'd say we're probably looking at around 5,000-7,000 empty seats unless we get a big walkup crowd.

It's strange how many of the students leave by the 3rd qtr....look at the crowd sometimes...they aren't looking at the game, they're screwing around with their phones..

Until EVERY game is a sellout, those who want stadium expansion should cool it.

First you have to fill what you have for EVERY game, even Liberty, and THEN you think about spending $50 to $100 million to add seating. WVU made more money by reducing seating and adding the north end zone luxury suites anyway.

Keep in mind the loss in coal mining & coal jobs in southern WV. Counties are even laying off sheriffs deputies due to lack of tax revenue..

Believe it or not WVU football attendance is secondary when you're out of a job. Many families are going through this.

I know a few long time season holders that gave them up for this reason.

Sad times in the coal fields.

3x, hasn't that been the case with southern WV and the coal industry for quite some time now?

I have to think fans from that part of the state constitute a relatively lower percentage of our fanbase than more proximate areas. If so, shouldn't "losses" there be offset to a fair degree by the growth in Morgantown and the additional tech jobs in Pittsburgh for our fans in southwest PA?

Please forgive my ignorance on this subject if I've made some incorrect assumptions, but obviously I'm pretty far removed from the area and often rely on the board for anecdotal discussion of local economic issues. It's always a fascinating topic, though.

That's two links that tell you about it. It's not just Boone county either, but I'd say there isn't a county that has been hit harder.

And yeah there a huge contingent of WVU fans in Southern WV. I79 out of Charleston is a parade route towards Morgantown on Gameday Saturdays or it was.

It's tough economic times down in the coal fields.

The gent who dropped off our RV today in the Green lot had a good long discussion about it...he works for a mine nearby as an electrician....back in Toronto I am an electrician as well...but what different worlds when it comes down to the fact they are now going after his pension? He mentioned he usually does 3-4 games a year and now he is hopefully going to make 2....needs to take the OT when he can get it...
And this is just outside Motown...so yep it's not only in the south..
