Anti-socialist Rand Paul to have hernia surgery.....

The hospital where Paul will be treated, the Shouldice Hernia Hospital, is "the only licensed hospital in the world dedicated to repairing hernias," according to its website.

That doesn't seem right.

So, a socialist health care system has one of the world's best surgeons? Can't be. The best doctors are attracted to the millions they can make in the capitalistic U.S.

They didn't just say best.....they say ONLY. I smell a DEEPSTATE operation afoot.

Funny you can go to the America Hernia Society website and find hundreds of American doctors who perform this surgery. Interesting.......Canada? If he comes out of the surgery speaking liberal tongue, then we know.....DEEP STATE!

WVU82, get better info......or at least don't post partial info.....

"While Shouldice Hernia Hospital is privately owned — like many Canadian hospitals — it receives a majority of its funding from the Ontario government and accepts the Ontario’s Hospital Insurance Plan.

The hospital's website outlines payments it accepts, including cash, check or credit card for those patients, like Paul, who are not covered by Ontario's insurance plan or a provincial health insurance plan."

In choosing Shouldice, Paul will receive care in a country that offers its citizens a publicly funded, universal health care system that runs counter to Paul's approach to American health care policy. Paul, who ran for president in 2016, touts private-market approaches for U.S. health care problems.

Paul's chief strategist, Doug Stafford, pointed to Shouldice Hospital's private status in pushing back against media reports about the senator going to Canada for treatment. "It's literally the opposite of socialized medicine," he tweeted.

Socialized Medicine Opponent Senator Rand Paul Plans To Have ...
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul plans to head to Canada to undergo hernia surgery, according to his attorneys. According to the Courier-Journal , Paul, who is one of the most aggressive critics of socialized medicine in the Senate, is scheduled to have an outpatient operation at Shouldice Hernia Hospital in Ontario, Canada, next week.

WVU82, continue....please.....you are looking more and more foolish with every post trying to defend Paul's hypocrisy. As shown, this hospital may be private, like MOST Canadian hospitals, and receives "socialist" government funding and accepts the "socialist" health cards.

Technically you are both correct here.... somewhat. Things differ somewhat by province as well. Private clinics are paid via the health system by law, however some of these clinics actually break that law, without being held to account a lot of the time. Hope this clears it up a bit. Now...I'm outta here before Airport goes all postal on the socialism ...see ya!

Im not understanding why he would go to Canada for medical treatment, is it a special hernia that requires special stuff that we normal folks dont need ?
I would call this hypocritical on his part ....

It doesn't make sense, unless he's squeezing more money out of his neighbor for spite.

I'm trying to figure out why there's a hospital 'dedicated to repairing hernias'. It's not a complicated procedure and not exactly life threatening. Plus all hospitals routinely do them. Like having store that sold nothing but ketchup. I had one when I was 6. No biggy.
