Amazing that a team which barely beat WVU in overtime is now ranked as the #5 team in both polls.

I think that this is another sign that Holgorsen's teams can compete in the Big 12. We need a few more play makers and better luck with the schedule. It is now time to beat Texas.

One competitive game against a ranked school (that obviously wasn't having their best day) does not mean Holgorsen is on the right track. That game was an outlier, not the norm. His teams are too inconsistent and it's more normal for the team to lack competitiveness against the upper tier schools of the Big 12.

The Associated Press writers moved Clemson into #1 ahead of Ohio State but the coaches still list Ohio State #1.

Alabama moved up 1 to 3rd with the writers and 4th with the coaches.

Baylor is 4th with the writers and 3rd with the coaches.

Oklahoma State leaped to 5th in both polls, by far the biggest climb of the week, up 7 with the writers and 5 with the coaches.

Notre Dame is 6th and Stanford 7th and Iowa 8th in both polls.

Clemson, Ohio State, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Iowa are the only unbeaten Power 5 teams – with four more games to go plus the conference championship games.

Mathematically, there can be no more than 3 unbeaten teams at the end if Clemson and Ohio State or Iowa and Baylor or Oklahoma State manage to avoid some really tough, back-loaded schedules.

TCU gets to feast on winless Kansas coming to town, Texas visits West Virginia, Kansas State is at Texas Tech, Oklahoma State goes to Iowa State and Oklahoma visits Baylor in by far the biggest Big 12 matchup of the week. The other games don’t decide much other than bottom 5 rankings unless the Cyclones surprise the Cowboys, who are on a roll.

The rankings that count, by the national playoff committee, come out Tuesday night. It will be interesting to see whether the writers or the coaches guessed right about the #1 team for the week. There is a LONG way to go and a lot of matchups of the top 10 teams to come.

Stay tuned.

No national champ has ever blown through every game on its schedule. Ohio State in 2002 had close games and only beat Cincy because the Bearcats dropped TWO consecutive passes in the end zone in the 4th quarter.

Take one game as proof of anything is like taking one drop of water from the ocean and making all your proclamations based on that one drop.

It's silly.

Hell, comparing what WVU does against common foes is meaningless, too. Team A is always beating Team B and then losing to Team C which lost to Team B. It's college football. Unpredictably is what they do best.

Oklahoma State won. That's how I judge teams. How many games have you won? Who have you beaten? Overtime or 30 points, it's still one W.

Notre Dame lost to Clemson by 2. Does that make Notre Dame rank ahead of every team except Clemson? Doesn't work that way.

The Holgorsen supporters are grasping for straws. Even the color commentators and play by play guys are talking about the team's lack of improvement and Dana getting canned. They are employed by, and representatives of the university for God's sake. If that's not the proverbial writing on the wall what is? We are currently ranked eighth in the Big XII and have not beaten a P5 team with a winning record. And the way the schedule is looking its more than likely we will finish the season with no wins against a P5 school with a winning record.

No no no

WVU blew a game against a team that wasn't that good and that same team got lucky against TCU.

Cmon you know how this works. Its not like WVU was a turnover away from beating a top 5 team. Holgorsen's teams cannot compete in the Big12 against the "good" teams.

Haven't been paying attention have you. The sky is falling remember

The sky has been falling. It's just that other people see it just as clearly as we did two years ago!

They NEED to play better disciplined ball. If we had a QB that can actually pass the ball within the box that receivers can go out and grab it and the receivers aren't dropping passes (that are catchable), I am willing to guess we would probably win against Okie Lite and TCU. Baylor and OU are another story when it comes to this season.

Every team WVU has lost to this season are ranked in the top 15 --two are top ten.

One of the top 10 teams WVU took to OT. The other three were all on the road.

WVU just beat the #3 offense in the country and still has a chance for a very good season overall.

Hope they win them all and go to a decent bowl and win that too. The Texas game is an important one--they have the ability to take out an Oklahoma, but also lost to Iowa State. WVU may not have an easy win in this conference.

I don't know Holgerson's future. But last year his teams lost a number of games by not many points and even though the point differential was significant in some of this year's losses you could see that those games could have been much more competitive.

We're close and I guess time will tell if we get closer.

I know one thing for sure - expectations for WVU football have never been hire. After the OK State game, there were posters saying it should have been an "easy win".

Take a look at all the highly rated teams. Even the 'great' teams this year and down thru the years barely squeaked by at least one or two teams on their schedule......................on their way to 'greatness'. Some of the teams that the 'great' teams beat were not even Top Division schools!

Based on that logic, Temple would be able to compete in a Power 5 conference as well. I mean they looked much better against ND than we have in any game and only lost to them by 4 points, and ND is likely going to be in the top 4 again. That is flawed logic at best.

and your brain is "flawed".

Last year we went 7-5 (4-5). Obviously the OOC schedule this year, essentially, trading Alabama for GSU, added an almost sure win in place of an almost sure loss.

I'd say 7-5 this year is a step back, not sign of improvement.

Relative to the other teams in the conference, so far, it's hard to say we've gained ground on anyone, and we seem to be falling further behind some:

OSU: 2014 won 35-10 on the road; 2015 lost 33-26 at home-- negative change
OU: 2014 lost 45-33 at home; 2015; lost 44-24 away--- at best even
Baylor: 2014 won 41-27 at home; 2015 lost 62-38 on the road-- negative change
TCU: 2014 lost 31-30 at home; 2015 lost 40-10 on the road-- negative change
TTU: 2014 won 37-34 away; 2015 won 31-26 at home--- at best even

overall in games to date, 2014 2-3; 2015 1-4 -- negative change

What is the basis for looking at that and concluding we are getting better?

Looking ahead, given the losses from the D for next year, if we don't find a good graduate transfer QB, what is the basis for believing it won't be more like 2013 rather than our best year yet under Holgorsen?

The win on Saturday seems to have discombobulated our 24/7 trolls. I get the feeling that they think they can make that win over TT disappear if they just keep posting. LOL.

After the big win - life is good.

I am starting to get concerned about the Miami rumors. Lyons needs to act fast and give Holgorsen another extension from 2017 to 2020.

Are you crazy? Another extension? FOR WHAT? Maybe I'm too old, but I always thought you EARN something first.
