And it COULD be a smoking gun. It depends on what he says. If he says "trump asked me to stop the investigation" and won't answer if he thinks that is obstruction of justice, because that is not his role, anyone else will determine that it is obstruction.

Again, I expect him to answer questions related to what happened at their meetings. That is his role.

That's fine, but if Comey says there was no obstruction, then no one else is going to find obstruction. Comey was the only one in the room. And the department of justice was the only other department capable of stopping an FBI investigation, and the FBI has already testified that the DOJ did no such thing.

Actually the Senate votes to convict, not decide "innocence". Then the full Congress votes to remove him from Office.

"Innocence" can only be proven in a court of Law because a citizen is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Congress is not a court of Law, it's one of the three governing branches and they vote to remove the Executive from office for not upholding his duty under the Constitution by committing treason or other high crimes or misdemeanors.

His "innocence" is never in question under an impeachment. It's his malfeasance in Office.
