I've said it quite a few times here lately, our offense in 2023 is going to look a hell of a lot different than that of the previous 4 years of Bean Ball. Gone are the days of statue QBs rooted in place, hoping that the pass rush would hold. And, don't get me started on the futility of running zone read with Jarrett Doege and JT Daniels. Zone read running plays will now actually have some hope.
But, crunching numbers...the only time we've ever showed an offense which will look anything like what we'll see in Happy Valley is our final 10 quarters or so of the season when JT Daniels was mercifully sent to the bench, and Garrett Greene was inserted into the lineup (and Nicco of course for the final half in Stillwater).
Over that time, we ran the ball 125 times for 620 yards, which averages 5 yards per carry with 6 TDs vs. the likes of Oklahoma, a top ten Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. Over that time frame, Jaylen Anderson toted the ball 26 times for 236 yards and 2 TDs - 9 yards per carry. Over that time frame, Garrett Green ran the ball 32 times for 183 yards (includes deducted sack yards) and 4 TDs - almost 6 yards per carry. Over that same time frame, Justin Johnson Jr. ran the ball 21 times for 97 yards, 4.6 ypc.
Yes, I'm worried about our defense. You should be too. Let's hope that our transfers all pan out - especially at corner - and that we have someone who can heat up a QB.
But, as for our offense...I think we're going to be able to churn yards and clock. We've got a chance.
