50-50 chance of approval of title game

The conference just went through a year or more long process to get legislation passed--but the commissioner has no idea what the membership thinks about it and no one has discussed it enough after all of this time to have already determined if they should actually implement something.

That is a problem.

According to Bowlsby--

Those ADs and presidents will meet on consecutive days, “but they aren't meeting in the same room at the same time,” Bowlsby said.

plus there's no mention of discussion of the comprehensive plan Boren brought up, or discussing the "package" which includes expansion, a conference network involving blending in the LHN, and the CCG as WVU's president Gee mentioned.

Seems pretty difficult to address all those things if people aren't even going to be in the same room at the same time.

Translation, informal non binding votes will take place. A formal binding vote won't occur unless it passes informal vote 1st. Results of Informal votes won't be released to the public.
I find this quote interesting and something I was not aware of

Bowlsby
"A decision to implement a championship game would require only a simple majority (six schools), Bowlsby added, though it would be better if there were unanimity."

And this from the story (not a quote from Bowlsby

Adding two new teams would have to bring a combined $42 million in equity to the league annually, according to source, for the numbers to work.

This goes to my point that TV $$ might stay the same, but over all revenue per team will take a 3-5 million $$ hit

Sounds like the conference secretly wanted the NCAA to prohibit a championship game so they could continue to use it as an excuse for not having a 13th game, like the other P5 conferences.
The conference needs to figure this out.

No, I don't think so. They really wanted to have the option to hold a CCG without being forced to expand. Now they have all the information they need to make a decision.

  1. Stay at 10 with no CCG and be at a disadvantage for not having the 13th data point but at an advantage of not losing the 13th game.
  2. Stay at 10 and hold a CCG which puts them on par by having 13th data point, but possibly at a disadvantage for having an auto rematch, or the fact they the best BIG12 team will play the 2nd best team, making it more likely to lose the CCG game then say an ACC team. This however puts an estimated 2.5 to 3 million $$ in the pockets of each BIG12 program
  3. Expand to at least 12, and hold a CCG. This puts the BIG12 on par with all other programs, but at least for the short term, would give each program less money then option 1 and 2. Biggest issue here is the BIG12 needs a network to support 12 or more teams, and it is not worth it unless flagship Texas is all in.

I can't imagine a conference game being held just for the hell of it in a 10 team conference... it would need to be with two 9 & 1 teams to avoid the issue of two years ago. Anything less would be, most likely, for bragging rights only.

What do you mean holding a CCG game just for He77 of it?
Also, had there been a CCG game 2 years ago, the BIG12 would not have been left out.

I am no fan of Bowlsby. He tailors his talks to his listeners but we are overlooking one very important statement he made in Texas: While telling them he didn't know much of anything and implying he sees no reason to do anything he added. "I don't know, but if I did I wouldn't tell you" That leads me to believe everything he says is all smoke and mirrors.

We would probably be much closer to the truth by listening to comments made by Boren and Gee. Boren doesn't care who knows what and Gee cannot keep a secret.
