College football attendance is down overall, but the top schools in the country are still drawing tons of fans each week. With that in mind, here are the 5 Big 12 Teams With The Highest Attendance In 2015:

5) Texas Tech Red Raiders - 56,340 - #35 nationally

Texas Tech's attendance numbers dropped four percent from last year, but they still finished in the top half of the conference.

4) Iowa State Cyclones - 56,519 - #34 nationally

The surprise entry on this list, Iowa State saw an eight percent increase in attendance, which was the fourth-highest increase in the country.

3) Oklahoma State Cowboys - 57,668 - #31 nationally

Oklahoma State saw another big increase in attendance, with a six percent increase from last year's numbers.

2) Oklahoma Sooners - 85,357 - #13 nationally

No surprise here. Oklahoma has the second-biggest stadium in the conference, but saw an increase that was less than one percent.

1) Texas Longhorns - 90,035 - #10 nationally

You were expecting someone else? Despite a down season on the field, the Longhorns still have the biggest stadium and perhaps the most rabid fan base in the conference.

WVU - 54,826 - not even in the top half of the Big 12. Another example of the difference between being in the Big East and a real power conference.

That is a flawed ranking. Texas will always be at the top because of stadium capacity; over 18,000 more seats than the next nearest stadium capacity (OU @ 82,112 vs. UT @ 100,119). Most have been put together by a Longhorn fan.

Looking at capacity vs. attendance gives you a different ranking:
1. KSU - 50,000/53,100 - 106% capacity
2. (tie) OU - 82,112/85,357 - 103.9% capacity.
2. (tie) TCU - 45000/46767 - 103.9% capacity
4. Baylor - 45000/46,100 - 102% capacity
5. OSU - 60,218/57,668 - 95% capacity
6. TxTech - 60,862/56,340 - 93% capacity
7. ISU - 54,800/56,519 - 91.8% capacity
8. WVU - 60,000/54,826 - 91.3% capacity
9. UT - 100,119/90,035 - 89.9% capacity
10. Kansas - 50,071/27,282 - 54.4% capacity

WVU still has a long way to go to get the numbers up into the top half, but to call UT the king of the hill is fuzzy math.

The Iowa St game was a joke...we had 42k. Otherwise we would have been 4th. We didn't even sell out for Texas for Christ sakes. Our fans just aren't what they used to be either that we are getting out drawn by Texas Tech and Iowa St. We should have 60k every Saturday

Im sure we would have 60K if people felt good about the direction of the program. When your only going 7-5 and continually losing too teams of equal of lesser talent than its hard for some folks to justify paying good money for tickets especially when its not exactly the best economic times

There are other potential flaws in these rankings. Some schools count tickets "sold" and others count "turnstile turns". WVU falls into the later category. Other schools count a large base of "corporate" tickets which may or may not include asses in the seats. Sell out a 25 or 50 person suite and 5 show up... it's counted as 25 or 50. Just look at Pitt for a comparison on attendance. Add in our Thanksgiving day/weekend games and we lose a lot of turnstile turns. It drags down our average significantly.

Using the numbers you posted for Iowa State, attendance was 103
% of capacity.

I had two charts I was working from, one 2014 and one 2015, ISU added seats between seasons and I calculated the percentage correctly but used the wrong capacity. See the link.

Thanks for pointing this out.

wbgvwbgv is the biggest phony on here I don't believe he really believes what he posts. He posts the same old crap over and over again just to rile people up. If Holgorson was winning 9+ games and there was high satisfaction he would be posting anti Holgorson posts saying lyons is unhappy with his progress. Punisheer just wants to fight with every poster on here i think believes what he posts

I still think that 91.3% is pretty impressive, given Holgorsen's sub par performance...

Don't you think part of the reason is that we now have Texas, Ou,OSU, etc on the schedule and not Rutgers, Syracuse, USF, Cinn on the schedule? Throw in Missouri next year, you have much better teams coming into Motown. Best since the 80's. Schedule is much more attractive than when we were the big draw in the later Big east.

who were the teams of equal or lesser talent this year that beat us?

I do my own research, post an objective result, stand by my posts and admit my errors unlike you, dumbazz!

You on the other hand are a hit-and-run poser poster who only uses other people's material, and only if it supports your slant, which seems to be to degrade WVU.

Please go back to the Marshall board and savor that C-USA championship... oh, wait...they aren't the C-USA champs. Well then how about that St. Petersburg Crack-Whore Bowl victory, that should do, and very fitting I might add.

i have to laugh at you guys lol. When faced with difficult to swallow facts, you label everyone a Marshall fan lol. Hilarious. For someone who researches his material, you certainly are failing at your agenda.

It would be better if he just made stuff up and spewed personal attacks, like you, hypocrite...

Kansas State, with a WR at QB is one...
oh yeah? KState lost to 3 top 10 schools by 7 points or less. The same KState coached by Bill Snyder who has won 11 games 7 or 8 times. Sorry son, that was a good team that could've been 9-3 or better if not for qb injuries. You fools need to learn this game.

The greatly improved schedule has done a lot to balance out the lack of success. I would much rather watch us play Texas or Oklahoma than Pitt or Cincinnati...

Pull the string and an excuse comes out...

By the way, Kansas State's most impressive win was us. Other than that, there is little difference between Kansas State's wins and Marshall's. Kansas State was closer to being 4-8 than 9-3. Keep making stuff up, though, hypocrite...

Kstate=USF Pain in our ask.

I guess he hasn't, and intends to come back. I thought that I read where we were playing them in Snyder's last regular season game. I guess I missed the word possibly.

We were better than them and it took a monumental effort by our special teams to snatch a loss from victory. Fumbled punt and KO return for TD. Not to mention Worley going to sleep on the first series of the wide receivier playing QB and giving up 75 yd TD pass. He never respected the temp QB and got burned. Snyder is a great coach but our players helped him out.

Oh yeah. Contrary to what ThePunish-EER says, we were a MUCH better team than Kansas State. Had we run the offensive that had been working the previous four games, we beat them nine out of ten times. Had our special teams shown up, we beat them nine out of ten times. It took a lot for us to beat ourselves, in that game. That was the most disappointing thing about that loss...

Kstate is well coached and playing at home, they found a way to win. I kinda look at our game against OSU and we found a way to lose thru TO's. We just didn't make enough plays that we could have been easily made. Durante dropping what might have been a TD pass. When you let teams hang around, bad things can happen. I just hope that we find a way to beat ASU, it will be a long year if we don't.

Same here. I would much rather go into 2016 with the momentum of beating a decent team in a bowl game...
