WVU Release 275 Mountaineers Named to Spring Big 12 Honor Roll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 27, 2018) -- The Big 12 Conference released its 2018 Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a total of 275 West Virginia University student-athletes making the list. The conference recognizes all student-athletes at its member institutions during each semester with a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher.


Of the 275 WVU student-athletes recognized by the Big 12 for their academic excellence, 56 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the spring semester.


The 56 Mountaineers named to the list with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the semester include: Dillon Meadows, Nick Snyder (baseball); Elijah Drummond, Brendan Ferns, Adam Stilley, Logan Thimons, Sam Trapuzzano (football); Philipp Matlari, Max Sear (golf); Robyn Bernard, Jordan Gillette, Abby Kaufman, Julia Merwin, Jaquie Tun (gymnastics); Will Anti, Elizabeth Gratz, David Koenders, Ginny Thrasher (rifle); Cassia Busch, Micah Gibbons, Amy Hoaglund, Abbigail Rees (rowing); Stephen Banick, Pascal Derwaritsch (men’s soccer); Hannah Abraham, Nadya Gill, Lizzie Mayfield, Kayla Morrison, Mara Rodriguez, Bianca St. Georges, Kayla Thompson (women’s soccer); Caleb Keck, Austin Smith, Jake Williams (men’s swimming & diving); Marah Bieger, Madeline Bolin, Julia Miranda, Kayla Gagnon (women’s swimming & diving); Giovanna Caputo, Yvon Martinez, Abigail Rosiello (tennis); Antigone Archer, Amy Cashin, Katherine Dowie, Jillian Forsey, Ellie Gardner, Olivia Hill, Andrea Pettit, McKenna Smith, Bree Warren, Bria Welker (women’s track & field/cross country); Gabrielle Cuckovich, Katie DeMeo, Morgan Montgomery (volleyball); and David Smith, Joe Wheeling (wrestling).


The football and cross country/track & field teams led all Mountaineer athletic teams with 52 and 25 honorees, respectively, on the honor roll. Other total student-athletes on the honor roll include men’s swimming & diving (24), women’s swimming & diving (23), rowing (22), women’s soccer (22), baseball (19), men’s soccer (17), gymnastics (12), volleyball (12), women’s basketball (12), wrestling (12), golf (7), women’s tennis (6), rifle (5) and men’s basketball (5).


Forty-one West Virginia student-athletes graduated in May with degrees.


The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll is recorded and released each semester and recognizes those Big 12 student-athletes who recorded a 3.00 or better GPA the previous semester.


More than 4,500 student-athletes each semester have been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the Conference’s 20-year tenure.
