259 Mountaineers Named to Fall Big 12 Honor Roll
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (January 20, 2017) -- The Big 12 Conference released its 2016 Fall Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a total of 259 West Virginia University student-athletes making the list. The conference recognizes all student-athletes at its member institutions during each semester with a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
Of the 259 WVU student-athletes recognized by the Big 12 for their academic excellence, 50 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the fall semester.
The 50 Mountaineers named to the list with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the semester include: Nathan Adrian, James Long (men’s basketball); Marlena Schmidt, Bailey Thomas (women’s basketball); Brendan Ferns, Nick Meadows, Ricky Rogers, Sylvester Townes (football); Robyn Bernard, Carly Galpin, Abby Kaufman (gymnastics); Jack Anderson, Will Anti, Elizabeth Gratz (rifle); Emily Deming, Elizabeth Hooper, Jacqueline Spiropoulos, Elizabeth Young (rowing); Stephen Banick, Ryan Kellogg, Tyler Shaffer, Ethan Shim (men’s soccer); Carly Black, Vanessa Flores, Bianca St. Georges, Ashley Woolpert (women’s soccer); Nathan Howells, Ryan Kelly, James Koval (men’s swimming & diving); Marah Bieger, Amelie Currat, Kelsey Frantz, Miranda Marcucci, Emma Skelley (women’s swimming & diving); Habiba Shaker, Paula Goetz, Abigail Rosiello (tennis); Amy Cashin, Maggie Drazba, Anna French, Olivia Hill, Allison Lasnicki, Shamoya McNeil, Andrea Pettit, Krista-Gay Taylor, Rebecca Wendt (women’s track & cross country); Gianna Gotterba, Hannah Shreve (volleyball); and James Dekrone (wrestling).
The football and women’s track/cross country teams led all Mountaineer athletic teams with 34 and 28 honorees, respectively, on the honor roll. Other total student-athletes on the honor roll include rowing (27), men’s soccer (24), men’s swimming & diving (20), baseball (20), women’s swimming & diving (17), women’s soccer (13), gymnastics (13), volleyball (11), wrestling (11) women’s basketball (9), women’s tennis (9), men’s basketball (8), rifle (8) and golf (7).
Twenty West Virginia student-athletes graduated in December with degrees.
