WVU Release 2024-25 WVU Men’s Basketball Nonconference Schedule

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (July 30, 2024) – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the 2024-25 men’s basketball nonconference schedule.



The nonconference schedule will feature eight games at the WVU Coliseum.



Coach Darian DeVries’ first official game at WVU will be at home on Monday, Nov. 4 against Robert Morris. West Virginia and Robert Morris will meet for the 22nd time in school history with the Mountaineers leading the all-time series 19-2. The two teams last met on Dec. 7, 2010, an 82-49 Mountaineer victory at the Coliseum.



The Mountaineers will play host to UMass on Friday, Nov. 8. WVU and UMass, former Atlantic 10 rivals, will meet for the 43rd time in school history. It will be UMass’ first appearance in Morgantown since 2007 when WVU downed the Minutemen in the NIT, 90-77.



WVU will travel to Pitt for the Backyard Brawl on Friday, Nov. 15. The two teams will meet for the 191st time with WVU winning the last six of the last seven meetings.



West Virginia will entertain Iona on Wednesday, Nov. 20. It will be WVU’s first meeting against the Gaels.



The Mountaineers will play three games in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas from Nov. 27-29. The rest of that field includes Arizona, Davidson, Gonzaga, Indiana, Louisville, Oklahoma and Providence.



West Virginia and Georgetown will meet at the Coliseum on Friday, Dec. 6 in the Big 12-Big East Battle. The former Big East foes will meet for the 54th time in school history. It will be Georgetown’s first appearance in Morgantown since a 74-62 loss on Jan. 7, 2012.



The Mountaineers will continue their four-game homestand on Tuesday, Dec. 10 when WVU and North Carolina Central will meet for the first time in school history. WVU and Bethune-Cookman will meet for the second time in school history on Saturday, Dec. 14. West Virginia will close out nonconference play in the first-ever meeting against Mercyhurst on Sunday, Dec. 22. The Lakers will be a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC) this season.



WVU will play one exhibition game against the University of Charleston on Friday, Oct. 18 at the Coliseum. Charleston is coached by former Mountaineer basketball player James Long.



The 20-game Big 12 Conference schedule is slated to begin at the end of December or first of January. The conference schedule will be announced in September. In conference play, the Mountaineers will host Arizona, Arizona State, UCF, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, TCU and Utah.
