2018-19 WVU Men’s Basketball Schedule

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 5, 2018) – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons and the Big 12 Conference have announced the 2018-19 men’s basketball schedule.

WVU will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 at home against Buffalo. Six days earlier, the Mountaineers will play its lone exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 3 against Alderson Broaddus.

The non-conference home schedule is highlighted by Pitt’s first visit to the WVU Coliseum since 2012 and three teams (Buffalo, Rider and Jacksonville State) who advanced to postseason play in 2017-18.

Even though the television schedule is incomplete and additional games are expected to be televised nationally, the Mountaineers are already slated for 22 regular season games on national television. Games with multiple ESPN channels listed will be determined at least seven days prior to the game.

WVU will play three games in Conway, South Carolina, in the Myrtle Beach Invitational. WVU opens against Monmouth on Thursday, Nov. 15, and will play either Western Kentucky or Valparaiso a day later. The Mountaineers will close out the tournament against either Wake Forest, Saint Joseph’s, UCF or Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, Nov. 18.

In the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, the Mountaineers will travel to Tennessee on Saturday, Jan. 26 to face the Volunteers. WVU will return to Madison Square Garden to face Florida on Tuesday, Dec. 4 in the Jimmy V Classic. The Mountaineers will also have a neutral site game against Rhode Island on Sunday, Dec. 16 in the Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The Mountaineers will play 17 games at home, with every Big 12 team visiting Morgantown. Valparaiso, Rider, Youngstown State, Jacksonville State and Lehigh will visit the Coliseum in non-conference play in addition to Buffalo, Pitt and Alderson Broaddus (exhibition).

WVU will play its first Big 12 game at home against Texas Tech on Wednesday, Jan. 2 and will conclude the Big 12 schedule at Oklahoma State on Saturday, March 9. The Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship will be held March 13-16 in Kansas City, Missouri.

“As I said when we announced our non-conference home schedule, we wanted to accomplish a few things with our schedule – bolster our strength of schedule by playing better teams, to play in marquee events on national television and to play more weekend home games to help accommodate our fans and television partners,” coach Bob Huggins said. “Once again, we have a bunch of games on national television and have 10 games at home on weekends, including the Backyard Brawl against Pitt and Kansas. This is obviously another tough schedule from start to finish, but a schedule that our team and Mountaineer Nation will look forward to.”

The rest of the game times and complete television schedule will be announced at a later date. All dates and times are subject to change for television.

Fans are encouraged to purchase seasons tickets to ensure a ticket for the Pitt game and all Big 12 home games. To order 2018-19 men’s basketball season tickets, visit WVUGAME.com or call 1-800-WVU GAME. Mini-package and single game tickets will go on sale at a later date.
