MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 20, 2015) – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons and the Big 12 Conference have announced the 2015-16 men’s basketball schedule.
Even though the television schedule is incomplete and additional games are expected to be televised nationally, the Mountaineers are already slated for 22 regular season games on national television, including all 18 Big 12 Conference games.
The Mountaineers will play 15 regular season games at home, with every Big 12 team visiting Morgantown. In addition to conference play, Northern Kentucky, Stetson, Bethune-Cookman, Kennesaw State, Louisiana Monroe and Eastern Kentucky will visit Morgantown in non-conference action.
WVU will play two games in Las Vegas in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. WVU will face Richmond on Thanksgiving, then play either California or San Diego State a day later. The Mountaineers will play non-conference road games at Virginia Tech and at Florida in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
The Mountaineers will return to Madison Square Garden for the second year in a row to participate in Jimmy V Classic against Virginia on Dec. 8. WVU will play two more neutral site games in Charleston against Marshall and James Madison.
“We are delighted to already have 22 games slated for national television,” said coach Bob Huggins. “I think Mountaineer fans by now are used to us playing one of the top schedules in the country. In addition to conference play, we go to Las Vegas to face two tough opponents, Virginia Tech, Florida, and return to Madison Square Garden to face Virginia. We have 18 games in our great state and Mountaineer Nation always supports us when we are on the road. Our guys benefitted from the practices this summer and the trip to the Bahamas, and I know they are looking forward to getting the season tipped off.”
West Virginia will open the regular season Nov. 13 at home against Northern Kentucky and will open Big 12 action at Kansas State on Jan. 2. WVU will play its first Big 12 home game against Oklahoma State on Jan. 9 and will conclude the Big 12 schedule at Baylor on March 5.
West Virginia will play one exhibition game against Glenville State on Nov. 6.
The rest of the game times and complete television schedule will be announced at a later date. All dates and times are subject to change for television.
