CRT/NIL

I was reading on the Clemson board today and they had a thread on their NIL. Suicide watch over there about Dabo and not wanting to bring in portal guys or paying for players. Anyhow, they seemed to be ecstatic with the thought they had 8-10 million in their NIL/Trust and thought that was more than enough to be within the top 10 in the country for most available NIL money available. I’m too lazy to look through all the threads, but doesn’t that seem low? Does anyone know what we have available?

Not Surprising

Anyone viewing TV and media advertising could figure this out:

September 26, 2023
Only 6 percent of new S&P 100 jobs went to white applicants in the year after George Floyd’s death, according to an analysis by Bloomberg News.
The analysis, based on data reported to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, shows that S&P 100 companies added 323,094 new jobs between 2020 and 2021. Of that total, 302,570 of them—94 percent of the total increase—went to "people of color," defined as blacks, Asians, and Hispanics, the analysis found. Together, those groups make up just 40 percent of the U.S population.

SHEEEEESH!!!! I go into surgery and

it sounds like the ACC is about to explode when I come out. I am foggy so not sure any of this is true. ALSO, thanks for all the good wishes. I am in pain at the incision but the nerve pain is already showing improvement. It will be slow recovery so I will be here but just not able to "kick" for quite a while. Told you that it was your lucky day. :joy: :letsgo:

Discussion with a Pitt grad

Earlier today I played golf with a Pitt grad. I casually asked him what "his team was going to do about their quarterback". He responded with, "Do you mean the Steelers? There's nothing wrong with Kenny Pickett." When I mentioned that I meant "his Panthers", he casually said he stopped following them after his graduation from the Pitt Engineering School in 1961. A good illustration why Pitt has trouble filling their football stadium when not playing PSU, ND, or WVU.

Five Thoughts...WVU 20 Texas Tech 13 & "the missing element"

My Fiver on WVU's victory over the Red Raiders in Morgantown Saturday afternoon....

1. Start with the Defense. Last year, Behren Morton went 28 of 45 for 325 yds and 2 TDs in a 48 point effort vs. WVU. This year, same QB goes 13 of 37, 158 yards, 1 TD in a 13 point effort vs. WVU. Gotta give credit where credit is due, and this Defense is vastly improved. Aubrey Burks looked like an All-American - he was everywhere. The much-maligned Marcis Floyd looks like a completely different player - great game with a sack and 3 passes defended. Trey Lathan continues to be a ball hawk - leading with 8 tackles. Anthony Wilson looks like Karl Joseph lite. Malachi Ruffin is worlds better at corner than Andrew Wilson Lamp. And, I'll end by saying...Ben Cutter is going to be a player. He looked like he was trying to de-cleat everyone he hit.

2. Now with the Offense. To my eye, there appears to be a lack of imagination with what we're trying to do. I don't mind running the ball with CJ Donaldson and Jalen Anderson. However, I do mind running the ball into a 9-man front over and over, with very little imagination into the run game design. For example, Jahiem White now has 13 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown this season. That's 8.9 yards per carry. He exploded through the hole Saturday for a 6-yard gain. And that was it. No other touches. How can you be that devoid of imagination, where you can't find a way for White to get the ball in space for at least 4-5 more touches in a game where you can't get any traction? I appreciate the effort to get Rodney Gallagher the ball on a reverse - nice 9-yard pickup. But, no touch passes? No screens? What about a wheel route to CJ Donaldson on a play-action fake? What about option? My overall complaint with our offensive scheme is that it's not making the opposing defenses think too much. There's just not much there. And, as the season moves on, we're going to need to use some more variation in order to score points, as we can't keep hoping to win games by scoring 17 or 20.

3. Devon Carter and Cortez Braham need to be better. First, Braham - when he caught Neal Brown's precious WR tunnel screen, he quickly reversed field and got caught for a 5-yard gain. If he simply would've followed his blockers, he would not have been touched before 10 yards. That would've been a 12-20 yard gain, easy. And, Carter - that slant which turned into Nicco's 2nd INT was all on him. Gotta come up with that catch.

4. Nicco Marchiol. The first INT and the missed deep ball to Hudson Clement stand out. I don't think the game has slowed down for him on this level yet, and he's not seeing the entire field clearly. On that first INT, he simply through the ball right to the Texas Tech LB. It was Phil Jurkovec worthy. And my goodness was Hudson Clement wide open for a touchdown on that deep ball during the 2nd half. Any serviceable former WVU QB - Skyler Howard, Clint Trickett, Darren Studstill, Chad Johnston, Rasheed Marshall - any of those guys would've completed a 60-yard touchdown there. I don't know what caused that pass to flutter and float down the field - the rain maybe? But, that was a wounded duck of the highest degree. Bottom line is - we are going to have our chances to go deep and we need to start making teams pay. Every defense we see will overload the box and dare our QBs to beat them. We need to take advantage of these opportunities when they present themselves.

5. We have a formula for a win Saturday night at TCU, and that is to muck the game up as much as possible by playing good defense, moving the chains on offense, controlling clock. It's not edge-of-your-seat excitement, but I'll take the "W" any day. That being said, the one element we're going to need to that formula, if we are to have a shot Saturday, is to hit opportunistic big plays - explosive touchdowns down the field on offense and/or big turnovers on defense. We can't rely on mucking it up enough Saturday to win 17-13 or something along those lines. I don't see that as a possibility. Sooner or later, the big play needs to become part of our repetoire, or else the W's will turn into Ls.

ESPN+ Really hurts teams particularly West Virginia

Because the state of West Virginia has a lot of area without broadband - a lot of fans are unable to get ESPN+ even if they are willing to payout the EXTRA subscription fee. Not as many fans watch ESPN+ games compared to regular cable channels. ESPN know that and worse the Big 12 knows that. THEREFORE, Big 12 officials should require that Big 12 games on ESPN+ should be divided equally among Big 12 members. Anything else is unacceptable.
