WVU Grabs Another Road Win Over Kansas

WVU Tops KU 1-0 For Fourth in A Row

Junior forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran’s 56th-minute goal helped lead the West Virginia University women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over Kansas at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence on Sunday afternoon.

A native of Wichita, Kansas, Heredia-Beltran scored just her second goal of the season, as well as the sixth of her career to give the Mountaineers (7-7-3, 5-3-1 Big 12) the road win. WVU also recorded its fourth straight shutout and is now on a four-game winning streak, its longest since the end of the 2022 campaign when they won six in a row.

The first half once again ended in a scoreless draw, but the Mountaineer offense came out swinging in the second half. West Virginia took the lead within the first 10 minutes of the period, as Heredia-Beltran’s header strike was positioned perfectly above the KU keeper. Freshman forward Jordyn Wilson and fifth-year senior midfielder Maya McCutcheon set up the score, with a pair of one-touch balls that gave Heredia-Beltran the perfect positioning for the header goal.

From there, the Jayhawks started to knock on the door, but fifth-year senior goalkeeper Kayza Massey and the Mountaineer defense kept them at bay. For the fourth straight game, Massey and the back line posted a clean sheet as they held KU to just two shots on goal.

West Virginia outshot Kansas, 12-9, including 6-2 in shots on frame and 3-2 in corner kicks. Heredia-Beltran paced the offense with her fourth career game-winning goal and two shots on goal, while fifth-year senior defender Julianne Vallerand and freshman forward Jacey Rase led the team with three shots in the match. McCutcheon and Wilson each added their second assists of the season on Heredia-Beltran’s tally.

With the win, West Virginia improves to 9-3-2 all-time against the Jayhawks, including 5-1-1 in games played in Lawrence.

After a week off, West Virginia returns to Morgantown for the regular-season finale against Cincinnati on Monday, Oct. 23. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. It’s Senior Night, and the Mountaineers will honor seven senior members of the squad prior to the match.

This L ain’t on NB you dummies

I’ll preface this with stating I believed he should have already been Fahr’d last year.

But WVU, the players, made bad bad mistakes all night long.

Dana did figure out our D and abuse it, but NB turned our one dimensional O into a two way threat in 10 days, albeit against a shitty D

Mistakes and we got smacked around up front on both sides cost us this one

Concerns going forward; our D not as good as we thought. TT could not operate an air game in the rain and TCU is waaaay over rated this year.

We 4-2. 1 game now ahead of schedule what I thought pre season. Won 2 I wrote off and lost one I thought we’d win. 7-5 if we clean it up.

Basketball Season

First off, rooting for Josh and this entire staff. Really have been impressed with the recruiting effort and truly do believe we are set up for a good year BUT with the hoops season approaching, I'd like to also watch coaches who may be on our radar and get a feel for their style in the event the job opens again and we do a national search. I'm going to try when I can to watch Kelsey at College of Charleston. Who else should we keep our eye on this year?

RECRUITING UPDATE Former WVU visitor decommits from UVA

West Virginia hosted Cedric Franklin back in April. He's now back on the market.

I know this is way to soon but

Assuming that Huggs does what he needs to do - 2 thinks I would like to see:
1. Huggs becomes big at CRT. I do not know the hierarchy there but if he gets help I would love to see him carry his love for WVU and the state on there. He would be a natural obviously.

2. I would love to see the U give him a proper sendoff and either name the court after him or name the practice facility after him.

He is human in his mistakes but has been huge for us.

And while I am at it - could we also do something like a statue for Don Nehlen while he is still with us??

I HATE when organizations honor a persons family after the person passes. Honor Don while he can enjoy it. I think a statue of Don with his headset on maybe between the stadium and the IPF.

Jim Justice stands well ahead of Sen. Joe Manchin, in the race to represent the state in the U.S. Senate

West Virginia Republican Gov. Jim Justice stands well ahead of Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., in the race to represent the state in the U.S. Senate, according to a recent survey.

The governor outpaced the incumbent senator 13% in the latest Emerson College survey, with 41% of voters backing Justice and 28% supporting Manchin. The Democratic senator has not announced his reelection plans.

Justice, meanwhile, faces a primary challenger in the form of Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., whom Manchin beat 37% to 31% in a head to head matchup. Explaining Manchin's stronger performance against Mooney seem to be split attitudes among independents on the Republican candidates.

"ndependents are breaking for Justice, 43% to 18%; however, in the matchup with Mooney, independents are split 32% to 32%," said Emerson College Polling Executive Director Spencer Kimball.
