Observations:
-Oregon and OkSt stand out and are clearly so high because of their mega-whale donors Phil Knight and T. Boone Pickens

-All SEC schools are within the top 40 (which actually represts a "top 50-ish" ranking when factoring in Private schools which would be in the top 45, like Notre Dame, USC, Stanford, Duke, Miami, Northwestern, TCU... and prossibly even Baylor, Vandy and BYU)

-Current Big Ten doesn't have a single school in the top 10 despite having blue bloods OSU/Mich

-All basketball blue bloods are within the top 40, led by Kansas at 19th

WVU Release Mountaineers Come Up Short Against No. 8 PSU Thursday Night

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Aug. 24, 2023) – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team fell, 2-1, to No. 8 Penn State at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown on Thursday night.

Penn State never trailed in the match, taking a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute of the first half. Despite a Mountaineer equalizer in the 53rd minute, the Nittany Lions reclaimed the lead with a go-ahead goal at the 84:06 mark to take the eventual win.

Sophomore Taylor White scored her second goal of the season, as well as her second in as many matches to bring the Mountaineers level early in the second half. A well-placed ball by junior forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran set up a perfect opportunity for White, who slotted the ball past the PSU keeper to equalize. However, it was Penn State who took home the win after a late goal in the 85th minute.

Although the score line showed a PSU victory, West Virginia (1-2) held an advantage in shots, 10-8, and shots on goal, 6-4. The squads were level in corner kicks with four apiece.

Heredia-Beltran paced the team with three shots and two on goal, as well as the assist on White’s goal. Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Kayza Massey made a pair of saves in the loss.

With the loss, West Virginia falls to 7-13-3 all-time against the Nittany Lions, including 5-5-1 in games played in Morgantown.

The Mountaineers conclude their three-game homestand on Sunday, Aug. 27, when Duquesne visits Morgantown for a 1 p.m. ET, kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. It’s WVU’s annual Pups on the Pitch match, and fans are invited to bring their dogs to enjoy the game. All dogs in attendance must have proof of vaccination and a signed Dog Day Waiver.

WVU Release Mountaineers Roll Past California Baptist on Opening Night

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 24, 2023) The West Virginia men’s soccer team got off to a strong start in the 2023 campaign as the Mountaineers defeated California Baptist, 3-0, Thursday evening at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

Sophomore Marcus Caldeira found the back of the net twice on opening night after leading the team in goals a season ago. Redshirt-senior Sergio Ors Navarro also scored while junior Max Broughton, senior Ryan Baer, junior Otto Ollikainen, and senior Yutaro Tsukada tallied assists.

In goal, senior Jackson Lee made five saves to earn the fifth shutout of his Mountaineer career.

West Virginia got on the board in the 15th minute as Broughton took the ball on the back line and sent it Baer who quickly turned and found Caldeira streaking toward the box where he made one dribble past the keeper before putting the ball in the back of the net.

After taking their one-goal advantage into the half, Ors Navarro doubled the Mountaineer lead in the 56th minute as he tapped in a perfect cross from Tsukada.

California Baptist, the WAC preseason favorites, had three shots on goal over the next 25 minutes, but Lee was there every time to clean things up.

In the 86th minute, Caldeira put the finishing touch on the match with a header goal off a pass from Ollikainen to give him his second-career brace.

Overall, CBU outshot the Mountaineers, 12-10, with shots on goal even at five. The Lancers also had a 7-4 corner kick advantage.

With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 37-21-5 in season openers and have now won seven straight opening contests, dating back to 2017.

West Virginia will be back at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Monday when Bucknell comes to town for a 7 p.m. kickoff. It will be Dog Day as fans are invited to bring their pups to the pitch. All dogs in attendance must have proof of vaccination and a signed Dog Day Waiver.
