After reviewing the details of the current situation post-2023 season, it is obvious changes are due. As of the conclusion of this season, Brown's buyout drops to $13 million. As much as I want to remain hopeful, the reality is staring us right in the face: he hasn't been able to turn the PROGRAM around.
I remember my 7 year old granddaughter last weekend telling me, "Grandpa, you're a FUN SPONGE ." for not letting her buy some stupid toy. It' was said in jest, but sometimes the truth hits harder than we'd like. In this context, this PROGRAM under Neal seems to be draining the fun, enthusiasm and spirit that once made us proud.
I believe our Wren Baker should have a candid conversation with Neal on Monday. and say, "Listen, Neal. We both understand that this situation isn't ideal. This is not working out. You are not happy and as you know our fans are not happy with your results. We both know if you decide to part ways at the end of the season, we owe you $13 million. But, we don’t want to simply fire you. Instead, we'd like to offer you an option to leave with some semblance of dignity and. announce effective today your resignation as Head Coach of WVU for the betterment of the PROGRAM, and WVU will provide you with $7 million payment now. (and you are free to take any job that desire with any interference from WVU. This way, you can exit gracefully. However, if this isn't agreeable, we'll proceed with termination and still offer you the $7 million. Any further actions, like pursuing legal recourse, are up to you. You're a respectable man, Neal, but we must consider the future of our beloved program."
Change can be tough, but sometimes it's a necessity for growth and progress. Thoughts, everyone?
