Personally I think Neal has done a very good job of holding onto players even after his worst seasons. But with NIL and the portal, it's becoming more of a problem for every program. There is a belief that a few more may leave after this season than Neal has normally lost. That point was made to me twice yesterday. The idea is that if WVU is going to experience several losses this off-season, the decision to move on from Neal becomes even easier. With all of that said, I don't see any reason to panic when it comes to the idea that a large amount of players plan to leave.
One other thing many donors and those close to the program have talked about is how you're seeing schools hiring lower-level coaches but those coaches have been able to bring talent with them. That's making the Jamey Chadwells even more important because they have serious talent on their current teams.
