Women’s Swimming Garners CSCAA Academic Honor
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 30, 2015) - The West Virginia University women’s swimming and diving team was named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American team for its work in the classroom this season.
The women’s squad finished the year with a 3.49 GPA – the highest for the program in eight years. Earlier this month, senior Jenelle Zee became the first WVU women’s swimming and diving athlete to garner Capital One Academic All-America At-Large honors. The political science major hails a 4.0 GPA and was tabbed a recipient of the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award.
“Our women have excelled academically,” noted coach Vic Riggs. “We had seven students with 4.0 GPAs, two-thirds of our team recorded a GPA over 3.5 and 90 percent had a GPA above 3.0. It really shows what a team commitment they have towards performing well in the classroom.”
The award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall and spring semester.
