The game Saturday night between Texas was the spotlight game in Week 6 of the 2012 Big 12 season, so it stands to reason that the players of the week in the conference all came from that game. West Virginia came out on top in the game, 48-45, downing the Horns in dramatic fashion on the road in Austin and climbed as high as No. 3 in the nation's top 25.
West Virginia's senior quarterback and team leader Geno Smith had his fifth straight sensational game and didn't do anything reduce his standing as the leading candidate currently in the Heisman watch for this season, but he was not the player of the game or of the week on offense. The Big 12 bestowed that honor on Mountaineers' running back Anthony Buie, who dodged, darted and demoralized the Texas defense, running for a career-high 207 yards on 31 carries. He also hauled in three passes to run up his total yards for the game to 281. Buie averaged 6.7 yards per touch in the game. Three of his runs were for 20-plus yards.
West Virginia also was honored with the Special Teams Player of the Week in the Big 12. Kick-returner and wide-receiver Tavon Austin had three kickoff returns for 111 yards, an average of 37 yards per return. Austin ran back the opening kickoff for 44 yards and had another return of 67 yards in the game.

Buie was the second West Virginia player to be honored as the Offensive Player of the Week. Smith has been the honoree twice already this season (in Weeks 1 and 5).
