Anyone have a good home made salsa recipe? I have a bunch of jalopenos ready to pick and would like to make some good salsa.

Arm yourself with some limes (for juice), some diced red onion, and some fresh cilantro, and you will be prepared to go forth into the world of salsa. A conventional approach would involve tomatoes (great time of year for them), but why not take advantage of the season and use peaches? Mangos are also used.

Fresh cilantro is absolutely essential. Accept no substitutes!

A bit of olive oil, salt and pepper. Am I forgetting anything?

You're pretty close to my recipe. Mine goes a little something like this:

6 Roma's gutted and diced
1/2 red onion diced
Bell Pepper green or yellow for color
Scallion or green onion diced
A couple of jalapeno's finely diced (you can add other types of hot peppers depending on how much heat you want)
Cilantro
olive oil
lime juice
salt
pepper

I know I 'm forgetting something.

I too love mango salsa I like to make it for fish recipes. Commonly I use it as a topping for grilled tuna steaks.

Sounds good JLW! I prefer a smooth salsa so I'll probably blend mine.

Exactly!

I've thought about blending as well and just never do.

If I can find the exact recipe at home I'll post that tonight.

I prefer the smooth salsa like they serve in most Mexican joints. Rio Grande here in Motown has some really good stuff. I just have never been a fan of the chunky salsa. Seems more like bruschetta to me.
