Lopez Joins Women’s Soccer Team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 28, 2015) – West Virginia University women’s soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown announced today that midfielder Yulie Lopez will transfer from Florida State and join the Mountaineers for the 2015 season.

A rising redshirt-sophomore from West Palm Beach, Florida, Lopez will have three years of eligibility remaining.

“Yulie brings with her tremendous experience following two years at FSU, the reigning NCAA champions,” said Izzo-Brown. “We are excited for her to get on campus and play in our system. Her flare of play and technical ability will add a lot to this team’s capabilities.”

Lopez saw time in 15 matches in 2013 and started three, playing a season-high 48 minutes in a win over Miami. She earned two points on two assists for the season and tallied seven shots, including two on goal.

Lopez sat out the Seminole’s National Champion season with a redshirt.

A two-time Florida High School Sports Player of the Year (2011-12, 2012-13), she was named the Class 5A Player of the Year by the Florida Dairy Farmers and Florida high school sports writers as a senior (2012-13) at Palm Beach Central High. Lopez also earned High School All-America honors that season and finished second in voting for Miss Florida Soccer Player of the Year.

Lopez scored 100 goals in her last two years of high school, breaking Palm Beach Central’s record for goals in a season her senior campaign with 48. She finished the year with 117 points (48 G, 21 A) and led Palm Beach Central to its first 5A state semifinal appearance.

Prior to transferring to Palm Beach Central for her senior season, Lopez led American Heritage to two 2A Florida state championships.

A U-14, U-18 and U-20 U.S. National Team pool member, Lopez attended camp with the U-14 and U-18 squads. She also earned a tryout to play for the Full Colombian National Team at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. She was a member of Coral Spring United (U-14 and U-18), participated with the Florida ODP team for three years and was a member of the ODP Region III team (U-14 and U-16).

The daughter of Juan Carlos and Yuleima Lopez, she will major in sociology.
