Going to be at the casino-track for a couple days next month. Any recommended places away from the casino?

What kind of restaurants? The casino has several from high end (Prime Cut Steakhouse), buffets, to sports bars. Downtown has many ,Dish, Turf Room, Mediterranean Cafe several Chinese ( China Fortune is the best ),several diner types( Mountain View is the best and biggest), Chains are Applebys,Ruby Tuesdays, Panrara Bread, Pizza Hut, Bob Evans Five Guys and Glory Days ( whom I think is the best of the sports types). Brothers Pizza and Kings have very good pizza and subs, Kings subs are the best by far. We also have all the pizza and sub chains. We also have the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown which is widely acclaimed and does mostly German. Shepherdstown has several other good local restaurants.

Yes I've been to many restaurants in the casino, including the sports bar, and agree it was very good. Figure we'll be in the casino for one day but will be in Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown most of the second day so somewhere local with either very good food or a great atmosphere. Does not have to be gourmet, a cozy place is always nice. Last time there we went to Shepherdstown and walked the main drag, cool little shops for sure. My mother grew up in Charles Town so that area has always been special to me.

I'm not keen on Harpers Ferry as most eateries do your typical tourist food, however the Anvil is decent and is not overly touristy . The Yellow Brick Bank and the Press Room in Sheperdstown are both good. I did not mention the Hillbrook Inn which is just outside of Charles Town on Summit Point Rd, It is a very nice historic B & B which offers very fine dining, you may goggle them to learn as to what they offer and require. I also failed to mention the La Mezzaluna Cafe in Charles Town that does a good job with Italian. Hope this helps.

Thank you! We stayed at the Hillbrook Inn, very nice and highly recommended. A little pricey on the weekends so we're staying out by the track. Appreciate the info.
